SYNOPSIS:

The New York Times proclaims Puffs “A fast-paced romp through the ‘Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.’ For Potterphiliacs who grew up alongside Potter and are eager to revisit that world, Puffs exudes a jovial, winking fondness for all things Harry!”

This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

Puffs is not authorized, sanctioned, licensed or endorsed by J.K Rowling, Warner Bros. or any person or company associated with the Harry Potter books, films or play.

“Puffs (One-Act for Young Wizards Edition)” Characters:

NOTE: Everyone will play 2-4+ characters every night. Some lead roles may be double cast and alternate nights.

NARRATOR (M/F): The one with all the heavy books. Narrates the story with a big plot twist at the end.

WAYNE HOPKINS (M) – The protagonist character of the story, a young Puff who dreams to be the hero of the story.

MEAGAN JONES (F): One of Wayne’s best friends, the daughter of a powerful evil wizard who struggles to fit in and gain attention from her mother.

OLIVER RIVERS (M): One of Wayne’s best friends, a “Mug-born” from New Jersey and a nerdy math geek, who is disappointed to learn that there are no math classes. Later, Megan’s love interest and boyfriend.

CEDRIC or DIGGORY (M): Everyone’s hero. The prefect for the Puffs, and Wayne’s mentor. Referred to as “Cedric” or “Diggory” separately due to copyright issues.

SALLY PERKS (F): One of the ’98 Puffs, who is slightly ditzy and very blind (without glasses).

J. FINCH FLETCHLEY (M/F): One of the ’98 Puffs, best friend to Ernie, Hannah, and Susie. In Year Four Leanne starts referring to him as her “imaginary friend,” and soon everyone else is treating him as imaginary too. He takes it surprisingly well.

ERNIE MAC (M): One of the ’98 Puffs, a bit of a “too cool for school” type of kid. Becomes a prefect in Year Five following Cedric’s death. Best friend to J. Finch, Hannah, and Susie.

HANNAH (F): One of the ’98 Puffs and is extremely awkward. Becomes a prefect in Year Five following Cedric’s death. Best friend to J. Finch, Ernie, and Susie.

SUSIE BONES (F): One of the ’98 Puffs. Majority of her family was murdered previously to the show by Mr. Voldy and the Death Buddies. The death of her family leaves her very afraid that she will die. Best friend to J. Finch, Ernie, and Hannah.

LEANNE (F): One of the ’98 Puffs who is very hyperactive and completely amazed by the wizarding world. A Puff who grew up as an only child, has never seen other children until now and wants to be friends with everybody.

MR. VOLDY (M/F): An evil and dark lord who wants to take over the school and kill Harry. His followers are the Death Buddies.
